Unlike other blood group systems, the antibodies of the ABO Blood Group are naturally occurring in all individuals who do not have the corresponding antigen (Refer to table below). Transfusion of donor red cells that are ABO incompatible with the antibodies in the serum of the recipient may result in an acute intravascular hemolytic reaction.
