DOT Consortium & Stand-Alone Random Testing Programs

Random drug testing programs are required for employers regulated by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT). Whether you operate a smaller DOT-regulated company and are interested in enrolling in a consortium, or a larger DOT-regulated company and would like your employees to be enrolled in an independent random drug testing program, ARCpoint Labs has your solution.

ARCpoint Labs’ 20 years of DOT industry experience means you’ll be working with a DOT consortium/third-party administrator (TPA) that has serviced thousands of clients, keeping them operating safely and within proper regulations. Let our team of experts help you too by managing your workplace drug testing program and keeping you compliant in today’s ever-changing regulation landscape.

You will need a DOT drug and alcohol testing program if your company uses CDL drivers who:

1. Drive a combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GVWR) of
26,001 lbs or more, provided the vehicle being towed has a GVWR of 10,001 lbs or more

2. Drive a single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 lbs. or more

3. Drive a vehicle that is used to transport hazardous materials, as defined in §383.5

4. Drive a vehicle designed to transport 16 or more passengers (including the driver) but
doesn’t meet the definition of numbers 1 or 2 above

Consortium Management

Random testing is the best tool employers have for deterring drug and alcohol use in the workplace. A DOT drug and alcohol testing consortium is a group of transportation companies enrolled in the same random testing pool to efficiently meet the DOT random testing requirements. It is perfect for companies with fewer drivers or those who want a streamlined process for testing.

Enrollment in a consortium also creates an efficient and timely solution that meets all random testing regulatory requirements. Once enrolled in the ARCpoint Consortium, your ARCpoint team will provide you with the required compliance documents and contact you throughout the year when updates are needed and tests are required. This time-saving process provides everything you need to comply with all DOT regulations and simultaneously reduces your overhead costs.

Your administrative burden of managing multiple vendors is also eliminated. Your ARCpoint team will handle that for you–no more lab contracts, multiple service agents, and mountains of records. The consortium is responsible for coordination between the MROs, laboratories, and collection sites, conserving your staff’s time and energy to focus elsewhere. Cost-saving, timesaving, stress-saving…it’s a win!

In addition, consortiums like ARCpoint will provide access to DOT and drug and alcohol subject matter experts (SMEs) when needed. If you own a small to midsized transportation company, ARCpoint’s Consortium is your one-stop shop for all your drug and alcohol testing needs.

Stand-Alone Random Drug & Alcohol Testing Programs

All DOT agencies, including FMCSA, mandate random testing. A regulated employer can accomplish the required testing through a DOT consortium/TPA, which is more hands-off for the employer, or through an individual random testing program operated by a service partner such as ARCpoint labs.

ARCpoint Labs will ensure you are fully compliant with DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations by working with you to implement a full program with easy and convenient access to testing services and records for your company. Regardless of your employee group size, our local team can help develop a testing program to meet your specific business needs.
