Infidelity Testing
Gain Clarity with a DNA Test for Cheating
When infidelity comes into question, it can bring about painful and confusing feelings. Suspecting your partner of cheating has the potential to turn your world upside down. With so many unanswered questions, it is difficult to know what your options are and how to move forward.
Navigating through this emotional situation can be challenging; however, finding answers through a DNA test may provide you with the clarity you need to determine the next steps in your relationship.
ARCpoint Labs is here to help you understand your options when it comes to DNA testing for infidelity.
Common Items & Sources of Potential DNA
If you suspect your partner of cheating, it is possible to find answers through the help of several items throughout your home that have raised your suspicions. Collection facilities are equipped with the ability to extract DNA from a wide range of samples of various sizes.
Fabric samples are often used in infidelity testing as they are typically more attainable.
This could include but is not limited to:
- Portion of Sheets or Linens
- Underwear/Undergarments
- Clothing
- Towels
Don't have a fabric sample with a bodily fluid on it? Testing can also be completed on these items:
- Condoms
- Feminine Hygiene Products
- Hair
- Blood
- Clothing
- Used Dental Floss
- Nail Clippings
- Cigarette Butts
If you have an item not listed above that you would like to have tested, contact our team to determine whether or not we can accommodate your request.
It is important to note that not all samples will contain sufficient DNA in order to analyze and produce results. Discuss your concerns and discover how to collect a sample with the ARCpoint Labs team by contacting your local collection site.
Types of Infidelity Tests
Once a sample has been collected and packaged, there are several ways in which it can be tested to help determine whether or not your partner has been unfaithful. It is also possible to have multiple tests applied to a single sample, for example both a DNA Profile and a Semen Detection test can be run on the same sample provided.
Talk with your local ARCpoint Labs about which test options are available.
DNA Sample Profile Identification
This infidelity DNA test allows for the comparison of DNA against reference samples — for example, samples belonging to you or your partner. These reference samples will be tested against your unknown sample to determine if they match you, your partner, or someone else.
Gender Profile Test
In this test, a biological sample can be used to identify the sex of the individual it came from. Often, samples can produce mixed results, meaning the sample came from a male and a female. From here, a technician may be able to find more specific information by testing the amelogenin sex gene — one of many genes that determine sex.
Semen Detection
A semen detection test looks for the presence of semen on a sample and can often determine any trace of semen, even if it is highly diluted or mixed with other bodily fluids. This test will not cross-react with other proteins and enzymes present in the sample. Therefore, it will not produce a false negative and is a highly accurate test that is trusted in many forensic and criminal cases.
It is important to note that some samples of semen may not have sufficient DNA in order to produce a profile and will simply produce a positive result, indicating the presence of semen.
Human or Non-Human Testing
Infidelity tests also have the ability to determine whether or not a sample contains human genetic material. Some samples contain no genetic material at all.
How Long Does DNA Stay on Clothing
When considering an infidelity DNA test, it is important to understand the timeline you are working with.
Under the right conditions, DNA can be detected on the same object for years, decades, and even longer. However, factors like the surrounding environment, contamination, or interference from other substances can result in samples that are unusable or tests that are inconclusive.
Many fabrics can retain traces of DNA for very long periods of time, even
on clothing that has been washed a single time. Bodily fluids like semen
can also be
detected for days on soiled fabric and clothing. If you are suspicious of your partner’s
behavior and are not sure of the age or validity of your available sample,
contact our team for answers.
