In 2020, the National Safety Council expanded the definition of worker “impairment” to include mental health disorders and chronic stress. A national survey of 350 decision-makers found that 93% agreed with the new definition; however, gaps in practice were also identified. These gaps can be effectively addressed by business leaders.

THE PRESENTER
Ryan West

Ryan West is the founder and President of WorkSafe International and proud partner of ARCpoint Labs. Having collectively served as a drug and alcohol counselor, clinical evaluator, employee assistance professional, and workplace trainer and consultant for over 17 years, Ryan fully understands the link between employee health and wellbeing and employee safety and performance.
Among other credentials, he is a DOT-Qualified Substance Abuse Professional, Certified Employee Assistance Professional, and current President of the Indiana Chapter of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association. He holds a master’s degree in organizational psychology and is presently a doctoral student at Penn State University, College of Education, Workforce Education and Development specialization. Ryan resides in Zionsville, Indiana with his wife and three children.
