IS FOOD SENSITIVITY DIFFERENT FROM FOOD ALLERGY?

by | Dec 23, 2023 | Uncategorized

Are you suffering from bloating, aches and pains, stiff muscles and joints, chronic cough, postnasal drip, fatigue, and a host of other symptoms that seem unrelated, but you never seem to be able to get rid of?

All these may be related to inflammation caused by your body’s response to foods that you eat daily and your body might be sensitive to. You may also be sensitive to certain medicines, herbs, and chemicals.

What is Food Sensitivity?

Food Sensitivity is your immune cell response to specific foods, additives, and other dietary items. Food Sensitivity is NOT a “true” food allergy where onset is acute and immediate. Food Sensitives effect the gut and are often delayed, low grade and chronic. Therefore, someone may not be aware that the chronic symptoms they are exhibiting are caused by foods they regularly consume – which are otherwise healthy – but might cause an immune cell response in your body.

What is Food allergy?

Food allergy occurs when your immune system overreacts to a harmless food protein. That food protein becomes known as an allergen. The immune system’s job is to maintain your health by marking and eliminating potentially harmful microbes.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction usually present quickly. Typically, within 2 hours of eating the allergen, you will have a reaction. An allergic reaction can also be more acute and dangerous.

What are symptoms of an allergic reaction?

– Tingling or itching in the mouth
-Hives, itching or eczema
-Swelling (lips, face, tongue and throat or other parts of the body)
-Difficulty breathing
-Abdominal pain, diarrhea
-Dizziness, Nausea, or vomiting
-Lightheadedness or fainting
-Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction that can cause life-threatening symptoms

What chronic conditions can be a result of Food Sensitivity?

  • Gut (diarrhea, constipation, bloating, gastritis, acid reflux)
  • Metabolic (obesity, type 2 diabetes, thyroid, inability to lose weight)
  • Skin (acne, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, urticaria)
  • Musculoskeletal (stiff/sore joints, arthritis, tendonitis, fibromyalgia)
  • Respiratory (chronic cough, asthma, postnasal drip, wheezing, sinusitis)
  • Neurological (chronic fatigue, headache, migraine, cognitive impairment, ADD, ADHD)

Uncovering inflammatory foods and other substances is key to eliminate some of the chronic conditions you might be suffering from.
