FTA (Syphilis Confirmation)

The FTA (Fluorescent Treponemal Antibody) Test is a confirmatory blood test for syphilis, performed after an initial positive screening result. It detects antibodies to the bacterium that causes syphilis, ensuring an accurate diagnosis.

Syphilis progresses in stages:

Primary stage – Characterized by painless sores (chancres) at the infection site. Secondary stage – May cause skin rashes, mucous membrane lesions, fever, and flu-like symptoms.                                                  Latent stage – A dormant period without noticeable symptoms. Tertiary stage – Can result in severe organ damage, potentially leading to neurosyphilis and other serious complications.

Timely medical intervention is essential to treat syphilis effectively and prevent complications at any stage. Regular STD testing, including the FTA test, helps with early detection and ongoing management, protecting both your health and that of your partners.
