Beta-2 microglobulin is a small protein found on the surface of almost all nucleated cells and in bodily fluids, acting as a component of MHC class I molecules. Elevated levels in blood or urine may act as a clinical tumor marker for some cancers like multiple myeloma and lymphoma, as well as an indicator of kidney disease, inflammation, or autoimmune disorders.
