APOLIPOPROTEIN B/A RATIO – Austin, TX
Apolipoproteins structurally bind and help solubilize circulating lipoprotein, as well as function as cofactors for enzymes and ligands for receptors (Mahley 1984; Rosenson 2019a). Apolipoprotein B-100 (Apo B) is the primary protein component of atherogenic lipoproteins including low-density lipoprotein (LDL), while Apolipoprotein A-I (Apo A-I) is the primary protein associated with antiatherogenic high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (Mayo 2018). Elevated levels of Apo B and decreased levels of Apo A-I are associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) (Lima 2007).
